Tatia Nadareishvili

I’m Tatia Nadareishvili, an author and illustrator from Georgia. Children’s books are my main passion, but I also work on many different projects, including illustrations, cover and book design, exhibitions, and more.

Born in Tbilisi in 1988. Studied illustration and graphic design at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. Member of VIRGAM, an artist collective at the Book Art Center in Tbilisi, for several years. Active as a freelance illustrator and designer since 2009; author and illustrator of picture books since 2011. In 2016, co-founded the creative label Illustrator, comprising a studio and concept store in Tbilisi. Artistic work has been presented in multiple group exhibitions in Georgia. Early professional experience includes work as a drawing teacher and children’s art therapist. International attention followed the publication of „Schlaf Gut“ (Sleep Like Me, Baobab Books, 2017), translated into several languages and shortlisted among the Most Beautiful German Books of the year. „Tina hat Mut“ (Baobab Books, 2020) was awarded second place at the Troisdorf Children’s Book Prize in 2021. Nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in 2024. Lives and works in Tbilisi.

What is your superpower?
I think it’s my love for my profession. Whatever is happening, my profession is an anchor in quiet waters.

Who was your favourite literary character as a child?
Pippi Longstocking — she was one of my favorite characters growing up.

Which place in Hamburg (or the world) would you like to write or draw about?
I write and draw a lot about the place where I grew up—a small village in western Georgia called Ontopo.

Which colour or material would you like to be, and why?
Yellow, probably—it’s the colour of the sun and warmth, and it doesn’t carry any negative feelings.

What do you think makes the Kinderbuchhaus special?
It’s very important to have a space where children can have different experiences and connect with art in many different ways.
